Minister of Education and Research Daniel David said on Wednesday that next year there will be "a much clearer order" in various competitions and regulations, so that those representing Romania in international contests and Olympiads who win awards are properly rewarded.

"I believe that next year we have to establish much clearer rules across the various competitions and regulations we have, because all those representing Romania, regardless of how they reach that level and who win awards, should be honoured in one way or another and we will ensure this through next year's regulations," according to Minister of Education and Research Daniel David who is attending the "International Olympiad medalists Gala" - an award ceremony for pupils who won prizes at international Olympiads in 2025, the teachers who mentored them and the educational units they attend.

He underscored that this year has been a challenging one both for the country and for the education and research system, but once the system is stabilised, next year the issues that should have been addressed this year will be corrected.

"After a fiscal-budgetary crisis and a political crisis in the first half of the year, inevitably our education and research system was affected. Nevertheless, we managed to weather the fiscal-budgetary storm and, in my view, the education and research system is now stabilised and must grow from this point onwards. (...) Once stabilised, next year, we will seek to correct the issues that should have been modified or adjusted this year," Daniel David said.

He reiterated that the education system is a mix of "lights and shadows."

"Clearly, if you look at the education system, you cannot fail to see a combination of lights and shadows. The lights exist and are represented by you, by the teachers you have and by the schools you come from. Of course, there are also many shadows in the system and I believe it is important for you to become role models for other areas of the system. (...) This year we managed to secure these awards. I am also aware of the many grievances that exist, not only regarding scholarships, which were affected by the fiscal-budgetary measures, but also other Olympiad participants who are dissatisfied, other competitions," the Minister of Education and Research added.
