Coast Guard border police discovered over 1,160 meters of fishing nets strung up in the Black Sea, with eight sturgeons and a dolphin caught therein. The catch was returned to the natural environment, the Coast Guard announced.
The institution this weekend carried out poaching-prevention and combating actions in cooperation with employees of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Administration.
Thus, on Saturday law enforcement found a total of 406 meters of nets in the Black Sea, with three live sturgeons entangled therein, and on Sunday they found 755 meters of net with five sturgeons and a dolphin captured.
"The animals were released back into their natural habitat and the nets were seized and placed in the institution's evidence room. Border police are conducting investigations for fish poaching and are looking to identify the perpetrators," the Coast Guard statement said.
