There will be 18,900 polling stations arranged for the parliamentary elections, of which approximately 1,300 will be located in Bucharest, and around 950 will be set up abroad, the president of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), Toni Grebla, informs on Tuesday.
He mentioned that October 5 is the deadline for submitting candidacies and electoral signs to the Central Electoral Bureau for the presidential elections. On October 8, the appeals will be submitted to the Constitutional Court, he told a press conference held at the BEC (Central Electoral Bureau) headquarters.
As for the parliamentary elections, in the country, voting will take place only on December 1, while, abroad, Romanians will be able to vote during two days: Saturday and Sunday (between 7.00 am and 9.00 pm). If at 9.00 pm there are still citizens in the yard of the polling station or in its immediate vicinity, the president of the polling station will be able to decide to extend the process, but not later than 11.59, when the electronic system will be closed automatically.
Approximately 19,900,000 ballot papers will be printed for each of the chambers of Parliament. For abroad, at the request of the MAE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), 2,800,000 ballot papers will be printed for each Chamber.
As for the parliamentary elections, each citizen will be able to vote in the section to which he is assigned. Only those outside the town will be able to vote on additional lists.
October 10 is the deadline by which citizens residing abroad can register on the AEP website to be able to vote by mail in the presidential elections. Romanians residing abroad will be able to vote at polling stations abroad or in the country, if they present a valid identity document issued by the Romanian state.
So far, 4,480 requests for voting by mail have been validated, and requests in this regard can still be submitted until October 18.
Until October 22, political competitors must request radio and TV stations to allocate air time for the electoral campaign.
Between November 1 and 30, the electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections will take place.
Grebla also specified that over 72,000 electoral experts and over 72,000 calculation operators are registered with the AEP platform.
The presidents of the polling stations and their deputies, as well as the operators and electoral experts, will follow training programmes, supported by the representatives of AEP, the National Institute of Statistics, the prefect of each county and the Special Telecommunications Service. Also, approximately 60,000 guides will be printed for the presidents of the polling stations, as well as approximately 2,000 guides regarding the rules for financing the electoral campaign, which will be offered to political competitors.
In nine airports in the country, mobile stands were placed, with informative leaflets about voting by mail, Toni Grebla mentioned.
