Her Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Crown, hosted, on Wednesday, at the Elisabeta Palace, an evening dedicated to the city of Ploiesti, the Youth Capital of Romania in 2024, an event during which Prince Radu emphasized the importance of this city, a community that stands out through reputable educational institutions, cultural life, economy, traditions, but also through the aspirations of the young generation.

"It is a municipality that includes some of the most reputable Romanian educational institutions, over three centuries, if we consider the 19th, 20th century and the one in which we live, a city of culture, of the great music traditions, of visual arts and all the seven arts and a place that meant and I hope it will continue to mean a lot in this century for the Romanian economy. All the reasons to consider the civil society, the economic environment and the intellectual world, the Prahova world in general, one of the most exemplary and more complementary communities that we have in the country," Prince Radu said.

He also highlighted the role of youth in Romanian society, which became more significant in 2007, the year Romania joined the European Union.

"It has never been less true that youth is the part that represents the strongest model of energy, creativity, hope, ideals, but this truth has never been more meaningful than after 2007, when Romania joined the European Union. The fact that most of the young generation is directly connected to the space of the European continent, either because some have chosen to live there for the moment, or because they go to study or work there, have made the young generation the most beautiful bridge between Romania and its European destiny, from west to east, and from north to south," said Prince Radu.

He also referred to the vulnerability of Romanian society, in the context where many young people have chosen to build a career outside the country.

"It is true that this also represents a vulnerability of our society, because families are divided geographically, but what you do is even more important by giving Ploiesti, one of the largest municipalities in Romania, the chance to be the capital of young generations for a year, do nothing but talk to the almost 7 million people who are not in the territory of Romania about how much they mean to their families, to their community, to the country, to their professions (...). I look forward to seeing you again at your home. In a few weeks, in October, I will have the pleasure of returning to see you again with very nice results", said the host of the meeting.

For his part, Daniel Nicodim, the vice-mayor of the Ploiesti municipality, spoke about a project in which "ambitious young people eager to change things for the better" were involved.

"A year in which our municipality became the host of cultural and educational events, aimed at those who are really involved and serious and who in a few years will proudly represent Ploiesti and Romania. The exceptional results continued to appear and, next to the young athletes from Ploiesti, who have accustomed us to very good performances, we must remember this evening those from the robotics team of the Mihai Viteazul National College from Ploiesti, who were crowned with success in obtaining the title of world vice-champions in the World Robotics Championship, as well as those from the I.L. Caragiale National College, said Nicodim.

He conveyed that it is the duty of elites and politicians to give young people the chance to develop, prosper and stay in the communities where they were born.

"It is our duty, the elites and the politicians, to give young people the chance to develop, prosper and stay in the communities where they were born, where they grew up and where they were educated, reducing the number of those who leave their community, respecting the ideals of those who died in December 1989, for freedom, democracy and a dignified life. At the same time, our society and local community always need the contribution of young people, because they are the compass that shows us where to go. let's face it and why should we beware", was the message of the vice-mayor Daniel Nicodim.

The event was attended by young people, representatives of local authorities, personalities from the economic, cultural and civil society of Ploiesti.
