Firefighters advise citizens not to light fires in areas with dry or wooded vegetation, to prevent fires, and not to throw cigarette butts at random, as these can also generate fires, in the context of a new Code Red heatwave that will last until Tuesday, 10.00 am.

"During this period, maximum temperatures of 38 and 41 degrees will be recorded, thermal discomfort will be particularly pronounced, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units," informs a press release of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU).

Among the measures meant to protect their health, citizens are advised to stay in the shade and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, to drink enough water and avoid drinking alcoholic beverages, to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, and to wear sun hats and light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing.

Information on how to behave during a heatwave can be obtained by accessing the national emergency preparedness platform - GUIDES - Canicula and on the official website of the National Meteorological Agency to learn more about the codes issued, at https://www.meteoromania.ro/avertizari/.
