Romania must stand by the Ukrainian people in their time of hardship and contribute to regional security through close cooperation with European partners and the United States of America, President Nicusor Dan said on Sunday in a message delivered on the occasion of the National Celebrations at Tebea.
In this context, the head of state referenced Avram Iancu, 'one of the most representative historical figures of the Romanian nation.'
'Avram Iancu remains in history as a legendary figure, and his name has become synonymous with the struggle to affirm our people's identity. It is moving that, every year, the ceremonies organised for the Prince of the Mountains' bring together Romanians of all ages who come to Tebea from across the country to honour the memory of the one who played such a significant role in shaping our national consciousness. In doing so, Romania's traditions are preserved and passed on, and the past becomes a reference point reminding us that we are a strong nation. The large turnout at these National Celebrations proves that the bond between generations is alive and that commitment to national values is a solid foundation upon which Romania can continue its modernisation and democratic consolidation, as an important member of the European Union and NATO,' the president's message conveyed, read at Tebea by state advisor Mihai Somordolea.
He underscored that Avram Iancu's ideals remain relevant in a world where ethnic and social divisions still persist.
'Looking at today's difficult international context, we can better understand the power of his example, the courage to defend rights, freedom and human dignity. The war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, right at our country's border, represents a major threat to global stability. Romania must stand by the heavily tried Ukrainian people and contribute to regional security through close cooperation with European partners and the United States of America,' the head of state added.
He also highlighted the importance of Avram Iancu's legacy.
'It is important to keep Avram Iancu's memory alive not only as a significant page of our history, but as a call to action in the present. We must show, through our actions and decisions, that Romania is a country of solidarity, tolerance, and confidence in the future. May Avram Iancu's legacy inspire us in our efforts to build a modern, strong and respected Romania, a part of the great European family and the democratic world,' Nicusor Dan further showed.
