Since its founding in 1997, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO) has become an international benchmark in the world of chamber orchestras. Operating as a "nomadic collective", the MCO is led by its members in collaboration with its management office in Berlin. Its musicians, hailing from around 25 different countries, come together for each tour or project.

During the 2023-2024 season, the MCO performed under the batons of Sir Simon Rattle, Maxim Emelyanychev, Tugan Sokhiev, Anja Bihlmaier and its Artistic Advisor Daniele Gatti, among others.

The 2024-2025 season will see the MCO appear alongside conductors Antonello Manacorda, Gianandrea Noseda, Elim Chan, Raphaël Pichon and Maxim Emelyanychev (returning for a second time this season), as well as with distinguished soloists such as Augustin Hadelich, Stéphane Degout and Leif Ove Andsnes.

Praised for his phenomenal technique, insightful and compelling interpretations and captivating tone, Augustin Hadelich is regarded as one of the leading violinists of our time. He frequently appears on the world's most prestigious concert stages, performing with all major American orchestras, as well as the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, and many other eminent ensembles.

Hadelich won a GRAMMY Award in 2016 in the category Best Classical Instrumental Solo for his recording of Dutilleux's L'Arbre des songes with the Seattle Symphony and Ludovic Morlot.

Gianandrea Noseda is one of the most sought-after conductors in the world, acclaimed both in concert halls and opera houses. Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center (USA) since 2017, he is also Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and General Music Director of the Zurich Opera House, where a highlight was the presentation of two complete Ring cycles (Der Ring des Nibelungen) in spring 2024, in a new production by Andreas Homoki.

He has conducted all the world's major symphony orchestras and opera houses, and regularly appears at the most prestigious music festivals.

Also on Tuesday, at 8:00 p.m. at the Palace Hall, the Romanian Youth Orchestra will perform, conducted by Christian Reif.

The concert will feature the George Enescu Philharmonic Choir, conducted by Iosif Ion Prunner, and soloists Simon Trpceski (piano), Ailyn Pérez (soprano), Judit Kutasi (mezzo-soprano), Maximilian Schmitt (tenor) and Soloman Howard (bass).

The programme includes Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16 by Edvard Grieg, and Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 ("Choral") for soloists, choir and orchestra by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The 27th edition of the George Enescu International Festival is taking place in Bucharest and across Romania until 21 September. This year's theme is "Celebrations," marking the 70th anniversary of the death of the great composer.
