Revolut customers in Romania completed more than 324,000 donation transactions over the past year, ranking third globally by total amounts donated, behind only Irish and British users.

According to the company's internal data published on Tuesday, Romanians donated more than EUR 464,000 over the past 12 months to charities listed in the Donations section of the app.

"Individual giving is an important part of social engagement and contributes to the inclusion of disadvantaged or vulnerable groups, with the non-profit sector playing a significant role in society. According to local studies, one in four Romanians is an active donor; in urban areas, more than half of adults have donated at least once. Over 127,000 registered charities contributed nearly 1.5% to national GDP (EUR 4 billion) in 2024," the bank said, citing a study by the Foundation for the Development of Civil Society (FDSC).

The analysis also confirms the generosity of Romanians, who have donated around EUR 4.6 million to charities directly through the app since the pandemic. Romanian users thus generated the third-largest total donation volume among the main markets where Revolut offers this feature.

"The Donations product creates a transparent bridge between our users and causes considered vital for society. By integrating RevPoints, we enable customers to continue supporting charitable organisations even during financially difficult times. It is not just about transferring money; it is about using technology to amplify social impact and ensure that, even in challenging periods, socially engaged individuals continue to show generosity," said Tamer Nurla, deputy CEO of Revolut Bank UAB Vilnius, Bucharest branch.

Charities supported by users of the bank receive 100% of each donation, with no fees or commissions charged by the digital bank.

Users can choose to donate instantly or set up recurring donations to support a wide range of causes, including children's health, child protection, vulnerable communities, environmental protection, disaster relief and emergency response, as well as technology-driven social initiatives.

Last year, one in five donations made by Revolut customers was carried out using RevPoints, part of the loyalty programme launched in 2024. Among the organisations receiving the largest donations from Romanian users were Asociatia Micul Noel, Daruieste Viata, the Romanian Red Cross, the World Food Programme and SOS Children's Villages.

Founded in the United Kingdom in 2015, Revolut offers money transfer and foreign exchange services. It currently has over 70 million customers worldwide, who use dozens of its products to carry out more than one billion transactions per month.
