Entrepreneurs will parade on Thursday, July 8, on the catwalk of the Expo 2021 - Made in Satu Mare fashion event to convey a message of support for the local textile industry, severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Romania's National Confederation Female Entrepreneurship (CONAF) reports.

The eighth edition of the Expo 2021 - Made in Satu Mare event will take place at Karolyi Castle in Carei.

CONAF, the German-Romanian Economic Association, Satu Mare City Hall, G.M. Zamfirescu and the City Hall of Carei hope that this message will boost the rescue of the Romanian textile industry by taking measures to stimulate the area in the face of the economic hardships caused by the pandemic, agerpres.ro confirms.

The Romanian textile industry produces clothing, textile fibers and footwear worth about 3.7 billion euros annually. In 2020, when several local factories closed or relocated to countries considered cheaper, the industry lost 3.7 million lei in turnover, reads a CONAF press statement.

CONAF Chair Cristina Chiriac says the Romanian fashion industry was one of the areas most affected by the pandemic.

"We have chosen this form of demonstration to sound the alarm on the current situation of the textile industry. We are campaigning for its revitalisation and we want a proactive approach that will encourage domestic producers to perform again in this sector. Almost 750 companies have disappeared from the statistics during the pandemic, but we will see the real figures at the end of this year. The fashion industry was one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the temporary closure of offline stores around the world and made people stay indoors longer and stop investing money in clothes and shoes. This situation has left its imprint directly on the production of textiles, clothing and footwear, as the respective factories are dependent on orders from fashion brands. (...) This is for the first time in Romania when the entire business community comes together in solidarity to support an important, interactive economic sector that pulls after it other sectors and generates added value to the national economy," according to Chiriac.

According to Chairman of the German-Romanian Economic Association for the Nord Vest Region (DRW Satu Mare) Iuliu Cadar his organisation thus supports the textile industry.

"After a period that put the world economy to the test, not only the Romanian economy, we consider that an event like EXPO - Made in Satu Mare, 8th edition, is welcome, and we want to reaffirm our unconditional support for the textile industry, which, together with hospitality industry, are the most affected areas of the Romanian economy, and not only, following the pandemic," says Cadar.

Participants in the Expo 2021 - Made in Satu Mare event will parade wearing the latest collections by Aranknit, Emil Gyl Style, Inedit, Norberto Fashion, Flori de ie, Anca Tomsa, Evelina Merkli, Ioana Calin, Cosmin Muresan & Sebastian Dan, and Sonia Bran.

The National Confederation for Female Entrepreneurship is the only confederation in Romania that supports and promotes female entrepreneurship and aims to defend the economic, social, financial, legal and cultural rights and interests of business women in their relations with the government, and fostering business relations.
