The Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Diana Buzoianu, declared on Thursday, during a visit to Brosteni, a locality in Suceava County affected by the floods at the end of last week, that the Executive is concerned that all necessary resources reach the affected areas.

Buzoianu stated that she wanted to visit the affected areas "at a time when things were already safe" because he did not want to "draw attention".

"The Romanian government made a decision these days within the National Committee for Emergency Situations, in which we allocated exactly the resources and equipment that we were told were needed. We are talking about food, clothes, water, containers. We will do absolutely everything we can to help, obviously, locally. I wanted to come at a time when things were already safe, because I did not want to attract attention or take away people's resources at critical moments, at times when people really needed to have all their attention directed towards saving those who were in the territory. (...) I did not want to do a populist activity," she said.

According to the Minister of the Environment, one of the main problems in the localities affected by the floods is related to water.

"I understand that today one of the main problems is related to water, to the water system that was completely destroyed by this event. What we can do, at the central level and then at the local level, of course, is to ensure that, for example, the work to consolidate the banks is done, all the infrastructure work, the embankment, the bottom sills, which are needed to be able to ensure that in the future, with such rains or perhaps with smaller rains, we do not feel the same consequences," said Diana Buzoianu.

She added that the recent damming work in the Broseni area mitigated the consequences, considering that it was an extreme weather phenomenon.

Diana Buzoianu gave assurances that both the President of Romania and the Government are concerned that all the aid needed reaches the disaster-stricken areas, and that she will in turn transmit to the Executive the requirements drawn up by the local and county authorities in Suceava.
