More than 4 billion lei in European funds will be invested in a project to build a national support network for over 2,000 marginalised communities, Labour Minister Florin Manole announced on Friday via Facebook.
"The state must take better care of those living in extreme poverty today, without access to public services, and European funds have been and continue to be a solution for poor communities and Romania's development. Next week we are launching a project to bring essential public services closer to people and build a national support network for more than 2,000 marginalised communities," Manole wrote.
According to the minister, over 6,000 professionals - including doctors, social workers, school counsellors and local specialists - will receive specialised training under the project, coordinated by the Ministry of Labour. They will work together in these 2,000 integrated community centres to provide social, educational and healthcare services to those "who need it most."
"The investment totals over 4 billion lei, supported by European funds, and it will help approximately 450,000 vulnerable people: children, the elderly, people with disabilities and low-income families. This project demonstrates that the state can reach places where it has been absent for years," Manole added.
