European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis visited a fish processing plant specializing in products from the Danube Delta in Tulcea and discussed with its representatives about investments in fish processing funded through the Aquaculture and Fisheries Programme (AFP), as well as other aquaculture projects implemented in the county.
According to a Tulcea County Council (CJ) release, the European Commissioner expressed his satisfaction with how European funds have been used.
He said his visit included discussions with national authorities regarding the manner in which the absorption of European funds can be accelerated, as significant amounts are available and must be used in the most efficient way. European Commissioner Costas Kadis said he is very proud of what he saw during the visits, namely a connection between the local economy and the processing industry that involves the entire ecosystem, adding that this is the type of relationship considered worth promoting.
In his turn, Tulcea CJ President Horia Teodorescu voiced confidence in identifying some solutions to attract new funds for the development of fish farming and aquaculture in the county.
"I hope that following your visit we can identify all the necessary measures to increase fund absorption in the area and further develop everything related to fishing, aquaculture and processing. This visit will demonstrate the professionalism of the economic operators who have benefited from European funds. I hope that you will continue to be our ally in what we plan to develop in this region of Romania, particularly here in Tulcea, which is the epicenter of this economic area. We have both a maritime zone and inland waters that are suitable for developing this economic segment in Romania," Tulcea CJ President Horia Teodorescu said.
According to the quoted source, Tulcea county attracted 42 million euro for the development of the fisheries sector through the Operational Programme for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs.
