Minister of European Funds Marius Nica signed on Friday a funding contract worth approximately 50 million euro for the rehabilitation of the North Road, in the presence of President of the Maramures County Council Gabriel Zetea, county counselors and MPs of Maramures. "The merit for signing this contract is of your colleagues with the County Council and colleagues with the European Funds Ministry, who put in all the effort so that such an important contract be signed. (...) It's one of the biggest contracts in terms of county roads, basically several road sections that pass through several villages of Maramures county, and when this project will be completed, we will get closer to Europe. Is a road that will be fixed on a distance of 70 kilometers (...) While coming for the airport of Satu Mare towards Baia Mare I have seen how important this investment is," Marius Nica stated.

The minister of European Funds assured the Maramures County President that he will endorse the completion of works for the Maramures international airport. In this context, the Maramures County President mentioned that the rehabilitation of over 70 kilomenters of county road will be in the benefit of villagers of the county that are connected to this county road section. The North Road was a project launched ten year ago, but its funding was postponed several times. The county road passes through several villages and localities, located near the vicinity of Salaj county.

Moreover, mayor of Baia Mare city Catalin Chereches asked the European Funds Minister to support the local administration in reopening the Maramures international airport, that had been closed for repairs two years ago. "Baia Mare city, but Maramures county also are losing economically speaking if the reopening of the Maramures airport will be postponed. It's vital for the local economy, but also for the tourism to have a functional airport," Catalin Chereches stated. Minister Nica responded to the mayor request and reiterated the ministry involvement in the reopening of the airport. The signing ceremony was attended by Prefect of the Maramures county Vasile Moldovan, deputy Catalin Matei and mayors of the villages that are to benefit form the investment.
