Minister of European Investments and Projects Marcel Bolos declared on Tuesday that Romania is in talks with European Commission representatives for just 13 hospitals of a total of 19 planned health facilities to be built with financing under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and the other six to be built from the loan Romania will take out from the European Investment Bank.

"Initially, when we launched the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, we set off with 24 hospitals, which were then cut to 19 after the first renegotiation, and now the discussions with the European Commission are that all those hospitals for which the public procurement contracts were already concluded and construction works have begun to continue with funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. This negotiation is currently underway with Commission representatives, and is due to be finalized this month. The Commission's concern is that these hospital infrastructure projects, which are complex and carry a high implementation risk, will not be completed by August 31, 2026," Marcel Bolos explained at the Palace of Parliament.

According to him, solutions are to be identified for these hospitals to be completed either by transferring them to the Cohesion Policy, respectively the Health Program, or to the EIB loan, which is in the contracting procedure.

Marcel Bolos was invited on Tuesday to the Chamber of Deputies' European Affairs Committee to present the status of the negotiations and proposals to amend the NRRP.
