European university rectors to convene at UBB for week of debates

Ten rectors from some of the most prestigious European universities and their academic teams, together with national and European decision makers will convene this week at the Babes-Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj-Napoca for EUTOPIA Week, to discuss the development of the European university alliance EUTOPIA and its contributions to the new European academic and social policies.

"Partner universities from Africa, Latin America, Asia, Australia and the US were also represented for global actions at the international level. Throughout this week, topics related to the European strategy of universities, dual/multiple/joint degrees, the new European research and innovation programme, the relationship between universities and industry will be debated. Also, some of the EUTOPIA Week days will be set aside for the EUTOPIA-Health project," according to UBB.

The theme of the event hosted by UBB is "Pathways to cohesion", reflecting one of the basic values of the alliance, cohesion.

"EUTOPIA, through its members and global partners in Africa, Latin America, Asia, Australia and the USA, is one of the most representative alliances of European universities, with an important voice in European academic policies. We are in Cluj-Napoca for a week, to discuss the development of the alliance and its contributions to European policies in the academic and socio-cultural areas", says the host of the event, UBB Rector Daniel David.

EUTOPIA is an alliance of prestigious European universities, whose ambitious objective is to redefine the future guidelines of European university education.

The Alliance offers teachers, researchers and students joint educational opportunities, joint research and development programmes, aiming to tr ain high-performing graduates, promoting internationalisation, diversity and inclusion, addressing global and local challenges.

The EUTOPIA community brings together over 240,000 students, more than 18,000 staff and researchers and more than 900 research groups, making it one of the strongest European university alliances.

EUTOPIA was established in 2019, being one of 17 winning projects of the European Universities Initiative competition launched by the European Commission to form an innovative space of European higher education.
