The Court of Accounts of Romania is hosting, October 7-10, in Bucharest, a new edition of the EUROSAI IntoSAINT Moderator Training Course, a tool created to facilitate the self-assessment of organizational integrity within supreme audit institutions (SAIs).

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, the event, organized by the Court of Accounts of the Netherlands and the National Audit Office of Norway, in collaboration with the Court of Accounts of Romania, brings together, for four days, experts from SAIs and aims to strengthen and expand the team of trained moderators within the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI), by using the recently updated and digitalised IntoSAINT methodology.

According to the same source, on the occasion of the official opening of the proceedings, the president of the Court of Accounts of Romania, Mirela Calugareanu, highlighted the major role that this mechanism for assessing institutional integrity has, ensuring a coherent and necessary approach for the application of standards in the field. She also emphasised the role of the Court of Accounts as a trusted partner of the Parliament, actively involved in assessing the performance of the public sector and in promoting accountability and transparency, with a view to an efficient use of public resources.

"I am convinced that integrity, professionalism and independence are necessary qualities to strengthen the role of SAIs as guardians of public finances, and this instrument provides us with essential support for strengthening institutional credibility. The consistency of the modernisation process of the Romanian Court of Accounts has the effects of strengthening the performance audit of public policies, financial and compliance audit, in strategic areas such as public debt, the efficiency of government programmes, the effect of fiscal consolidation measures and budget deficit reduction," said Mirela Calugareanu, quoted in the press release.

The work will continue during the three days, during which the latest practices in the field of promoting integrity at the level of SAIs will be debated.

IntoSAINT has a key role in supporting supreme audit institutions in fulfilling their mandate as model organizations, which promote integrity, transparency and accountability in the public sector. By applying this tool, the coherence and relevance of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) standard-setting efforts are ensured and a practical and adaptable approach is provided for assessing organizational integrity.
