The 2027 Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) will take place between 14 and 27 February, as decided by the Steering Committee of the Association established to organise the event in Brasov, which is the city to host this edition.

According to a briefing sent on Thursday by the Brasov City Hall, the decision was made "taking into account the analysis of weather conditions over the last 5-7 years," the quoted source mentioned.

Moreover, the Steering Committee decided that by the end of this month, invitations to participate will be sent to the 50 member countries of the European Olympic Committees Association.

These decisions were made during the first meeting of the event's Organising Committee, chaired by Brasov Mayor George Scripcaru, which took place on Wednesday in the attendance of the President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, Mihai Covaliu and with an online intervention of Vice Prime Minister Tanczos Barna, nominated by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan as chair of the Interministerial Committee for organising the EYOF 2027.

Thus, the discussions focused on both organisational details and the preparation of sports facilities for the event.

"We agreed [with Vice Prime Minister Tanczos Barna] to take the first steps towards the Government in the upcoming period, so that the financial components necessary for the EYOF 2027 can be discussed during the drafting of the 2026 budget. Because if we don't take procedural steps now and if we don't make purchases, equipment, investments, or define the financial needs that must be ensured by the Government, it means we won't meet the necessary pre-2027 milestones," Mayor George Scripcaru said, according to the quoted source.

On the other hand, regarding the selection and preparation of the Romanian athletes who will represent our country, 600 children and young people have been selected in the first phase, meeting the eligibility requirements to participate in one of the 10 sports competitions within the EYOF, according to the quoted source.
