Farmers and processors who want to invest in green energy for their own consumption can consult the applicant's guide for accessing the renewable energy scheme until October 30, 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) announced on Wednesday.
The document is under public consultation for a period of 15 calendar days, starting with October 16, 2025, in order to launch a new session for submitting funding applications.
"The Ministry of Agriculture constantly supports investments that contribute to the modernization and efficiency of activities in the agri-food sector. Through this financing scheme, we support farmers and processors who choose to produce green energy for their own consumption, thus reducing operating costs and dependence on external sources. The sustainable development of Romanian agriculture requires the adoption of sustainable energy solutions, which ensure competitiveness and environmental protection," said the Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, in a release sent to AGERPRES.
The Energy Scheme is addressed to enterprises in the agricultural sector and the food industry, legally established and registered with the National Office of the Trade Register, as well as to organizations in the field of land improvements.
Through this scheme, projects that aim to create new electricity production capacities for self-consumption (below or above 1 MW), from solar or wind sources, with or without storage systems, can receive funding.
Farmers will be able to request funding exclusively for the establishment of new units, projects that replace existing capacities, aim at expansions or provide for self-consumption of less than 70% of the energy produced by the newly installed capacity being ineligible.
Financing is provided through the Aid Scheme for supporting investments in new electricity production capacities from renewable sources for self-consumption of enterprises in the agricultural and food industry sector (Energy Scheme), financed from the Modernization Fund, managed by the Ministry of Energy.
The administrator of the state aid scheme is the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, through the Agency for Financing Rural Investments (AFIR).
