Romanian fencer Ana-Maria Popescu (former Branza) won on Sunday the Epee Grand Prix Doha 2017 (Qatar), after defeating in the final Italian Mara Navarria, 10-6, according to the Website of the Romanian Fencing Federation.
Ana-Maria Popescu on Saturday played in the qualifications round and on Sunday the athlete trained by Dan Podeanu and George Epurescu defeated Beate Christmann (Germany) in the first round of the competition, 12-7, while in the 2nd round she defeated Russian Tatiana Gudkova, 15-7, in the round of sixteen she defeated Italian Rossella Fiamingo, in the quarterfinals she defeated Russian Tatiana Andriusha, in the semifinals she defeated Chinese Hou Guangjuan, 15-9, and in the final she defeated Mara Navarria.
In the same competition in Doha, Amalia Tataran (CS Dinamo) ranked 30th, Greta veres (Cs Steaua) ranked 51st and Maria Udrea (CSA STeaua) ranked 53rd.
