Romania has clear interests related to agriculture, it has arguments and when it has arguments, it should not back down in the European negotiation, Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare conveyed on Thursday, at the AGRI4FUTURE Romania-Objective 2035 National Conference.

"I believe that we should, obviously, and I have been saying it for a long time, stand firm in European negotiations. We have clear interests related to agriculture, we have arguments. When Romania has arguments, then it should not back down in the European negotiation. We present our arguments, we organize, develop a strategy regarding possible alliances in Councils, discussions in the European Parliament and support our points of view. In respect to the Common Agriculture Policy, I believe that it is important this standpoint of Romania which we can articulate, we have arguments, thus, we need to move forward in this regard," Nazare said.

When asked how the Finance Ministry plans to ensure fiscal stability and predictability in order to endorse entrepreneurs in the agri-food sector, so that they can access working capital and capital for investments to maintain competitiveness, including through instruments which have been underused in Romania and even in the European Union, namely investments funds, state guarantees, the Finance head responded: "This question is very related to what we want to do in the Finance Ministry in the next period."

"I stood by the Farmers' Club prior to becoming a minister, I held presentations regarding Romania's economic situation back then. This thing is not new, I am close to the Farmers' Club even now, because I believe that agriculture is very important to Romania and any innovative method to boos funding in agriculture is important," the minister said.

He added that a change of mindset is needed and financial instruments must be developed to truly help agriculture.

"Somehow, we need to make this transition, a change of mindset, both at the administration level and the manner in which the civil society in agriculture - professional associations- discuss with administration, so that we overcome the usual inertia and create financial instruments to truly help agriculture. Other states in Eastern Europe did it, there are successful instruments, we do not have reasons not to do it too. We just need to move pass these blockages which have held us back from being proactive in funding with new instruments," the Fiannce chief said.

Alexandru Nazare announced that after his speech at the conference, he will head straight to the airport to travel to Luxembourg, where he is due to attend the Economic and Financial Affairs Council.

The Finance Minister attended on Thursday the AGRI4FUTURE Romania-Objective 2035 National Conference, organized by the Romanian Farmers' Club.
