The new leadership of the Customs, through President Alexandru Bogdan Bălan, will have a clear mandate to streamline customs activities, announced on Friday the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare.

"We have changed the leadership of the Romanian Customs Authority. The new leadership of the Customs, through President Alexandru Bogdan Bălan, will have a clear mandate to streamline customs activities, focused on: combating smuggling and associated customs fraud; optimizing the collection of customs duties, excise duties and VAT on imports and reducing associated evasion; improving transparency and institutional accountability; facilitating legal trade and protecting the economic interests of Romania and the European Union," the Minister of Finance wrote on his Facebook page.

He emphasized that the Romanian Customs Authority must work more efficiently and responsibly, in the interest of the Romanian state, of fair economic operators and for the protection of the national economy.

Alexandru Bogdan Balan was appointed president, with the rank of state secretary, of the Romanian Customs Authority, by a decision of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, published on Thursday in the Official Gazette.

Balan replaces Marcel Simion Mutescu, who was dismissed from his position as head of the Romanian Customs Authority, by another decision of the prime minister.

Also on Thursday, the prime minister appointed Mihai Savin as vice president of the Romanian Customs Authority, replacing Alexandru Ioan Dudu.
