Five alleged migrant smugglers and 30 undocumented foreigners have been picked up by investigators and taken to the headquarters of the Timisoara Border Police Inspectorate (ITPF) for hearings, following searches that took place on Monday morning in the counties of Arad and Timis.
Sources close to the investigators told AGERPRES that the searches were conducted by Directorate for Investigation of Organised Crime and Terror (DIICOT) prosecutors and concern a migrant smuggling case. There were raids at four addresses in Timis and at two addresses in Arad County, where dozens of migrants were found.
In the locations of the two counties there were foreigners who were to be illegally taken out of the country in order to reach Western Europe. They are mainly citizens of Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The group should have already transported several migrants out of the country, also hidden in lorries headed for western European countries.
Following the searches, 30 undocumented migrants were found sheltered by the suspects, being taken to hearings at the ITPF Timisoara headquarters. Also, five alleged members of the migrant smuggling group were picked up.
