Former SRI [Romanian Intelligence Service] generals Florian Coldea and Dumitru Dumbrava on Monday filed a request with the Bucharest Court of Appeal to lift the measure of judicial control imposed against them by the DNA in the case in which they are being investigated for influence traffic.

On May 24, Florian Coldea and Dumitru Dumbrava were placed under judicial control on bail, being accused of demanding 600,000 euros from businessman Catalin Hideg, to help him obtain a suspended sentence in a fraud case with European funds.

Coldea and Dumbrava are trying to escape the judicial control, in the context in which they are also banned from leaving the territory of Romania and communicating directly or indirectly, by any means, with the persons mentioned in the order imposing the judicial control.

In this file, lawyers Doru Traila and Dan Tocaci, a close relative of the three, are also being prosecuted.

Later, the DNA extended the criminal investigation in the cases of Coldea and Dumbrava, who have allegedly asked the mayor of Rovinari, Robert Filip, to pay the sum of 600,000 euros, in exchange for them influencing some magistrates to pronounce decisions favourable to the mayor, in a criminal case in which he was being tried.
