Foreign Minister Oana Toiu meets Egyptian, Chinese incoming ambassadors

The Egyptian and Chinese incoming ambassadors were received on Friday by Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Toiu at the Ministry's headquarters, on the occasion of the presentation of their letters of credence.

At the meeting with ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Romania, Mohammed Moustafa Orfy, the Romanian minister highlighted Egypt's role as a key partner of the EU in the Middle East, with a well-defined profile in efforts towards the settlement of regional crises.

Minister Toiu expressed her appreciation for Egypt's efforts as a mediator in the context of the conflict in the Gaza Strip and highlighted Romania's firm support for achieving a lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East and the implementation of the two-state solution. She also thanked the Egyptian state for the support provided in the evacuation of Romanian citizens from conflict areas.

The Romanian top diplomat also stressed that Egypt represents one of Romania's main trade partners in the Middle East.

The dialogue with ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Bucharest, Feng Chen, provided an opportunity to review the current state of Romanian-Chinese bilateral relations, with the officials expressing "openness to deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, in accordance with the foreign policy priorities, fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries."

Also on Friday, Oana Toiu welcomed Italian ambassador to Romania Alfredo Durante Mangoni on a farewell visit.

In this context, the minister spoke for strengthening the Consolidated Strategic Partnership "at a sustained pace, with an emphasis on economic areas, by further stimulating mutual investments, cooperation on economy, security, culture and others."

Oana Toiu underscored the particular importance the Romanian community in Italy and the Italian community in Romania have in consolidating bilateral cooperation.

The Romanian top diplomat also met on Friday with South Korean ambassador to Romania Kap-soo Rim, on a courtesy visit, with her expressing appreciation for the excellent bilateral cooperation and the joint commitment to expanding cooperation in multiple areas of mutual interest, in the spirit of the bilateral Strategic Partnership.

The Korean diplomat highlighted Romania's active role in the region and reaffirmed his country's interest in continuing to develop cooperation, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
