Romania plays a crucial role in European emergency preparedness by hosting essential facilities and providing both civilian and military capabilities in support of European and regional partners, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) conveyed on Friday in the context of a meeting between Romania's Foreign Affairs Minister, Oana Toiu, and the head of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU), Raed Arafat.
According to a post on the ministry's Facebook page, the two officials discussed cooperation between the ministry and the DSU, covering both emergency consular support for Romanian citizens and international humanitarian assistance.
The ministry also highlighted Romania's access to financial support through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, citing Romanian humanitarian flights for pediatric patients from Gaza and Romanian firefighters deployed in recent years to countries including France, Greece, and Turkey.
"Romania proudly confirms its reputation as a trusted friend in times of need. We will strengthen this close cooperation in the service of Romanian citizens and communities, supporting our friends and allies and assisting those in distress whenever the situation demands," the MAE press release further mentions.
