Interim Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu and her Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations, providing a "solid" framework for regular and structured dialogue and closer coordination on the European, regional and international agenda.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Romanian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
According to the ministry, Oana Toiu highlighted the strength of Romanian-Cypriot bilateral relations and expressed appreciation for the contribution of the Romanian community in Cyprus and the Cypriot community in Romania.
She stressed that their close ties with the two countries represent "an important bridge" between the two societies and contribute to strengthening the partnership between Romania and Cyprus.
The two officials agreed on the importance of further developing the bilateral economic agenda by building on the positive trend in trade and investment and identifying new areas with untapped potential for cooperation, the Foreign Ministry said.
Toiu expressed appreciation for Cyprus's term at the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of the year and discussed European cooperation, with a focus on the enlargement process and negotiations on the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework.
