Two cultural tourism routes featuring the former capitals of Dacia and Roman Dacia, Hateg Country and several major castles and fortresses in Hunedoara County have been proposed as special packages to travel agencies attending a tourism trade event held in Sibiu on Friday as part of the International Ecotourism Fair.
The two routes are due to become operational next year and include monuments administered by the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation (MCDR) in Deva. Packages featuring various festivals organised by the Hunedoara County Council and the Deva museum are also being promoted.
"At the Tourism Exchange, we proposed two very interesting routes that we will develop into tourism packages over the course of next year. The first includes, among other sites, the capital of Dacia, Sarmizegetusa Regia, and the capital of Roman Dacia, Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa. The second brings together sites in Deva administered by MCDR, as well as Hateg Country, Nopcsa Castle and other medieval monuments in the area," MCDR Deva manager Liliana Tolas told AGERPRES.
The offer presented by Hunedoara County representatives also includes the gastronomy of Hateg Country, as well as local traditions and folk crafts.
"We are trying to persuade travel agencies to choose Hunedoara County as a cultural tourism product for 2027. We are relying greatly on our friends at the ASTRA Museum in Sibiu and its director general, Ciprian Stefan. He has spoken about a Sibiu-Alba-Hunedoara Axis. It is a concept worth exploring because it could contribute to the development of an area whose counties have a great deal in common in terms of cultural and gastronomic heritage and traditions. In addition, we have an airport in Sibiu that can also bring tourists to Hunedoara County," the MCDR Deva manager said.
The Deva museum is taking part in the International Ecotourism Fair with a stand in Sibiu's Large Square, where visitors can see replicas of Dacian bracelets discovered in the Orastie Mountains and Koson-type coins, sample traditional dishes from Hateg Country and take various virtual tours.
