Former Minister of Labor, Social Democratic MP Marius Budai, asks the Liberals to support the increase in the minimum wage in the economy starting January 1, 2026.
On Tuesday, he appealed to the president of the Botosani branch of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Valeriu Iftime, who is also president of the County Council, to insist with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to increase the minimum wage.
"I will insist on increasing the minimum wage from January 2026, until the last moment, when the final decision will be made. As such, today I appeal to the president of PNL Botosani, Mr. Valeriu Iftime, to join me in this endeavor. I remember that he introduced himself as a good friend of Prime Minister Bolojan. Maybe it would matter if he calls his friend to present the real situation, from us in Botosani, where we have many young people, but also older people, who work on the minimum wage. For these people, an addition to the salary obtained with hard work really matters. Especially after the price increases following the VAT increase," Budăi wrote on his Facebook page.
At the same time, he pointed out that, "on this issue", both social democrats and liberals should be on the same side.
"Mr. President Iftime, I know that you were a businessman and a representative of the employers' association who, in general, opposes the minimum wage increase. I understand well that, in business, profit comes first. Now, however, you are the elected president of the County Council and I believe that, this time, the people who voted for you should come first. So I appeal to you in this capacity as an elected official of our community. Talk to the Prime Minister, your friend, talk to the PNL parliamentarians from Botosani, talk to you in the party at the center! Let's be on the same side on this issue! It would really matter to many of the people of Botosani who voted for us", the former minister also said.
