Foreign Minister Dan Neculaescu held discussions on Friday with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, regarding the security situation in the Black Sea, noting that Romania is increasing its capabilities to protect freedom of navigation.

The discussion follows a new drone attack that took place on Friday, targeting a commercial vessel near Romania's territorial waters, agerpres reports.

"Today, I spoke with Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, about the security situation in the Black Sea, in the wake of a fresh attack on a commercial vessel near our territorial waters. Romania is strengthening its capabilities to directly counter these threats and to safeguard freedom of navigation. We defined the next steps for advancing our Strategic Partnership and continuing our support for Ukraine. At the same time, I underscored the personal importance I place on upholding the rights of persons belonging to national minorities, an essential item on our bilateral agenda," Neculaescu wrote on Facebook.

A commercial vessel off the Romanian Black Sea coast capsized on Friday after being struck by a drone near the border with Ukraine. One crew member died, while nine others were rescued. The incident occurred approximately 24 kilometers off the port of Constanta, just outside Romania's territorial waters.
