French-born Romanian triathlete Felix Duchampt has qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris based on his position in the world's individual ranking, thus bringing to 89 Team Romania competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics, the Romanian Olympic Committee (COSR) announced on Monday.
According to COSR, Duchampt will represent Romania for the second time in a row in the Olympic triathlon competition. Born in France, he joined the world circuit for Romania in 2019. He also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
This year, he has toured the world to collect points. In February he came first in Mexico and 9th in Havana, in March he finished 5th in Mexico, and in April he competed in Australia (27th) and China (36th). In May he again reached the podium in Mexico, 2nd place, and finished 23rd at the last competition in Chile. He qualified from the 59th position in the world rankings.
"For Duchampt, who turns 35 on September 5, it is a dream come true. He will also compete at the Games in France, his home country, but representing Romania. All family and friends will come to root for him! Congratulations, Felix! Good luck, bonne chance a Paris!" COSR wrote in a social media post.
Team Romania currently has 89 athletes qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games, in 14 sports.
