The Government is considering the possibility of increasing the amount of classical unemployment, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Violeta Alexandru stated on Tuesday for Adevarul Live..

She pointed out that the Government has so far resorted to the payment of furlough so that employers can keep their employees' jobs.

"The reason for this furlough and the continuation of this furlough measure with other measures, but related to it, is to maintain the connection and continuity of the relationship between employees and employers. That is why we did not make an investment in the classical unemployment measures because we also had this option. I am not saying that this variant does not exist, we are even reflecting on the possibility of increasing the amount of the classical unemployment, but we have turned to and have assumed the fact that we dedicate ourselves to the furlough measure, because it means a temporary suspension of an employment contract and hence the premise that the two parties meet and resume their work. Therefore, it does not mean that I do not pay attention to the terminated contracts, they currently stand at a little over 260,000. It does not mean that we are not interested in the fate of these people, but our intention is to look for solutions so that they can get back to work," said Violeta Alexandru.

The Labor minister estimated that many of the employers who suspended the employment contracts of their employees paid from their own sources the unemployment benefit.
