The Government adopted, on Thursday, a decision establishing a new scheme for trading greenhouse gas emission certificates.

The regulatory act takes into account the evolution of European Union policies after 2020, being in accordance with the provisions of the EU acquis, according to a press release sent by the Executive.

"The new regulations are correlated with the existing European legislative framework on climate change applicable in the fourth period of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), 2026-2030. Thus, the regulatory act regulates the new reference values for the free allocation of allowances for aviation activities, for newly entered installations, for the Modernisation Fund, the transitional free allocation for the purpose of modernising the energy sector (optional), the free allocation for sectors at risk of relocation, the extension of the ETS scheme to the maritime sector and the establishment of a new ETS for the road transport and buildings sector", the quoted source reports.

The goals for the use of revenues obtained from certificates intended for auctions are also established, including for the road and building sectors, the press release states.
