Members of the Ilie Bolojan Cabinet held a moment of silence, on Thursday, in the beginning of the weekly Government meeting, in memory of the Bessarabian patriot Ilie Ilascu.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu decreed a day of national mourning in the Republic of Moldova on Thursday, November 20, the day on which Ilie Ilascu - one of the leaders of the national liberation movement in the 1990s, who was sentenced to death by the separatist regime in Tiraspol - will be buried at the Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest, the Moldovan media reported.
At the same time, a symbolic farewell ceremony will take place at the "Nicolae Sulac" National Palace in Chisinau, on Thursday.
Ilie Ilascu, a former political prisoner of the separatist regime in Tiraspol, between 1992 and 2001, died on November 17, at the age of 73.
