Gov't borrows RON 1.69 billion on Thursday off commercial banks

The Ministry of Finance (MF) on Thursday borrowed RON 1.69 billion off banks in one issue of government bonds and one issue of discounted treasury certificates, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

MF borrowed RON 1.171 billion in a bond issue of a residual maturity of 58 months and an average yield of 7.31% per annum, agerpres reports.

The nominal value of the issue was RON 400 million, and banks offered RON 1.55 billion.

An additional auction is scheduled for Friday for another RON 60 million lei at the yield set on Thursday for bonds.

Also, MF borrowed RON 518.8 million in an issue of discounted treasury certificates of a residual maturity of 12 months and an average yield of 6.85% per annum.

The nominal value of the issue was RON 500 million, and the banks offered RON 961.8 million.

MF has planned for July 2025 to borrow RON 5.8 billion off commercial banks, to which RON 795 million can be added in additional sessions of non-competitive offers related to bond auctions.

The total amount of RON 6.595 billion is RON 790 million higher than the one scheduled for June 2025 of RON 5.805 billion, and it is intended for public debt refunding and government deficit financing.
