The government approved on Thursday the integration of the Midia Port grounds into the Port of Constanta, a decision aimed at strengthening the strategic position of the Constanta Port in the European transport network, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sorin Grindeanu announced on Thursday on his Facebook page.

"At the proposal of the Transport Ministry, the government approved today a decision intended to stimulate investments, boost maritime commercial activities and strengthen the strategic position of the Port of Constanta in the European transport network. More precisely, through the approved regulatory act, the Midia Port grounds are officially integrated into the Port of Constanta, resulting in an administrative and operational reorganization," Grindeanu wrote.

Thus, the freeport regime is extended to an area of 7.7 million sqm, which implies: the modernization of the port infrastructure and the creation of state-of-the-art operational facilities; the stimulation of trade flows by increasing logistics capacities; ensuring a unified customs regime for port operators, thus eliminating legislative discrepancies between the various sectors of the port.

The expansion of the freeport regime also paves the way for a competitive investment climate, favorable to attracting investments and increasing the volume of international trade through efficient integration into European transport corridors.

The Midia zone is part of the state's public domain, standing under the administration of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and being leased out to the Constanta S.A. National Company 'Maritime Ports Administration'.
