Reducing personnel expenses by 10% was discussed "in principle" in the governing coalition, PSD chairman Sorin Grindeanu said on Tuesday, adding that he is waiting for the project that the prime minister will come up with.
"We are waiting for the project that the prime minister will come up with. In principle, a 10% reduction in expenses was discussed, that's what we discussed last night, including things related to personnel by 10%. I'll give you an example, let's say in Parliament, these things were done at the beginning of the year, about the protest here. Where the cuts were made - in education, through package one, certain measures were taken (...). There are things that we have to take into account. (...) PSD doesn't agree with the army, it doesn't agree with education, with health. Yes, I called the prime minister and told him what came out, that some people are trying to look beautiful, I told him that PSD doesn't agree with this approach, he said that he doesn't agree with things like this either, in which some people pose as beautiful fetuses and we'll have a discussion in coalition," Grindeanu said in Parliament.
Asked if there could be exceptions in certain areas, he replied: "There could be, but we decide in the coalition, if there are or not. We don't just find sources and do things of this type. (...) At the Ministry of the Interior, for example, there is currently a shortage of personnel, as you well know. At the Army, if I'm not mistaken, 70 or so percent of the budget goes to the payroll area, to income, whatever."
"We discussed as a general principle last night in the coalition that this reduction - and this is what the prime minister proposed, not PSD, UDMR or USR - and this was also discussed a week ago - that there should be this 10% reduction in spending. On the other hand, the local administration, rightly, says the following: 'very many of us made cuts last year too'. The burden cannot fall solely on the local administration. You must have a regulation for the central administration as well. And you know this. This was taken into account by the prime minister when he came up with this 10% proposal. That's what the prime minister proposed yesterday. These are the discussions we are starting from. (...) I believe that this week we will have a form in the government. It should go into the government. However, the steps must be taken constitutional," added the PSD leader.
Asked if the discussions regarding the magistrates would conclude during the day, he said that he was waiting for "a signal from the prime minister as well."
"The PSD's point of view is the following: if (...) with this mediation between the state powers a common point of view is not reached, the PSD supports preserving the initial law, by 70%. This is the PSD's point of view. I responded to these things to the president, I also told the prime minister. I believe that if there is someone who can, according to the Constitution, it is the president. I do not want to respond in place of the president. I stated the PSD's point of view, I do not want to speak in place of others. (...) The president comes with a proposal that he has discussed and proposes it to us in the Coalition. If we agree, we move forward with that form," Grindeanu specified.
On the other hand, the PSD leader mentioned that "this moment is being speculated upon and an unjustified increase in the price of fuel has been reached". "And here, the competent institutions - the Competition Council and ANAF - can see why this increase is happening," he added.
