The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu leader of the PSD maintains that foreign direct investment in Romania fell by 82% in the first six months of the year, stating that this trend reflects the economic situation resulting from the policies promoted by dismissed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

Grindeanu stated at Parliament on Monday that foreign investments during Ilie Bolojan's term were 5.5 times lower than those recorded in 2025, arguing that this indicator reflects the "disaster" inflicted upon the economy.

"Today, I want to continue presenting the actual economic data that official propaganda deliberately hides from Romanians. The figures reveal an 82% collapse in foreign direct investment in Romania during the first six months of the year. (...) Foreign investment during the term of dismissed Prime Minister Bolojan is 5.5 times lower than it was in 2025 dropping from 3.7 billion euros to an incredible low of under 700 million euros, specifically around 670 million euros. This indicator serves as a litmus test revealing the economic disaster Ilie Bolojan has caused. It is the clearest snapshot of the economic catastrophe brought about by the absurd arrogance of a single man who made decisions unilaterally, without regard for his governing partners," Sorin Grindeanu stated on Monday at Parliament.

The PSD leader claimed that Romania lost over 500 million euros in foreign investment in the first three months of the year alone.

"At this rate, if Ilie Bolojan clings to his post and persists with the reforms, we might well hit zero. In any case, the record low of the last 12 years has already been reached. It is clear that foreign investors lack confidence in the economic policies championed by dismissed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. Foreign investors are not affiliated with the PSD, nor do they have political allegiances; quite simply, they will not risk their money in a nearly destroyed economy," stated Grindeanu.

According to the PSD chairman, the trend in foreign investment compounds other negative economic indicators, such as economic decline and rising external debt. The myth of the "saving hero" was shattered once and for all today, Grindeanu asserted.

"Romania has recorded the second-largest economic decline in the European Union over the past six months, with foreign investment down by 82%. At the same time, external debt has risen by over 23 billion euros in the last year, and the current account deficit has widened by 1.6 billion euros. Perhaps it is time after this long string of economic and political failures for dismissed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to understand the situation and let Romania breathe," stated Grindeanu.

He emphasized that the PSD will continue to be part of a rational political solution to revitalize the economy and restore the standard of living of Romanians. AGERPRES
