Romania's Permanent Representative to the EU Luminita Odobescu hosted a meeting of the French-speaking Ambassadors Group in Brussels (GAF-B) on Wednesday that discussed the prospects for the Economic and Monetary Union and had European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs Pierre Moscovici as a special guest.
Odobescu, who is also chair of the GAF-B, stressed the importance of the euro currency as an essential dimension of European identity.
She pointed out that the debates on strengthening the Economic and Monetary Union are necessary as negotiations are about so start on the future Multiannual Financial Framework and should involve all the relevant players.
Transparency needed to combat tax evasion and tax fraud is also an important component of these debates, according to the statement.
European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici is quoted as having appreciated the importance and timeliness of these discussions and as expressing support to the objective of strengthening the Economic and Monetary Union.
