Several thousand people are expected on Saturday at the traditional event "Ziua celor 1.000 de fete secuience", which takes place in umuleu Ciuc, on the outskirts of the municipality of Miercurea-Ciuc, and which has the role of preserving and promoting the Secui folk costume and traditions.

According to information provided on Wednesday, in a press conference, by the mayor of Miercurea-Ciuc, Korodi Attila, the event will begin on Saturday morning, in the Libertatii Square in Miercurea-Ciuc, with a parade of folk costumes and a joint dance of the participants, followed by the procession ascending to the Sumuleului saddle, where a service will take place in the Franciscan Basilica.

Korodi pointed out that it is a very important event for the culture of the local community and is a legacy that ethnographer Domokos Pál Péter and his generation, who organized the first editions of the event, left to the current generation.

He pointed out that it is a "meeting of Szekler folk costume, Szekler folk music, Szekler culture, represented by young people, girls and boys."

The mayor of Miercurea-Ciuc also sent a message to the tourists who will be present in the city and invited them to participate in a unique event in Romania, which reflects the uniqueness of Szekler culture.

"Here they will see the emotion of the Hungarian Szekler culture. Because, until the end, in the 1930s, when the organization of this event began, the message was that there is a specific culture that must be preserved. And if our young people, annually, can meet in Szekler holiday costumes, then they will certainly have the feeling of belonging to a special culture for us and for our heart. So, yes, they will be able to see an event that is unique in the Romanian landscape and worth seeing, because through music, through costumes, through traditions, we can offer something unique," said Korodi Attila.

According to the organizers, this year 29 folklore groups will perform on stage, but the total number of participants will be between five thousand and seven thousand people.

The honorary host of this year's edition is the commune of Sâncraieni, recognized for the large number of people who perform in groups of dancers.

The director of the Harghita Szekler Choreographic Theatre, András Mihály, the main organizer of the event, pointed out that Sturday's program will be very complex, with stage performances, interactive dances for the audience, activities for children and folk craft workshops, such as pottery, weaving, or carving demonstrations.

He also said that participants will have the opportunity to wear Szekler folk costumes in a specially arranged tent.

Present at the press conference, Ferencz Angela, director of the Harghita County Cultural Center, spoke about the work and effort behind this event and emphasized that it is important to feel the emotion with which the tradition-preserving groups prepare to participate in the "Day of the 1,000 Secuience Girls".

Deputy Mayor Sógor Enikő highlighted that wearing the Szekler folk costume is a symbolic gesture through which participants affirm their belonging to the community, respect for traditions and support for the cultural values celebrated by the "Day of 1,000 Szekler Girls".

The organizers announced that on Saturday, traffic restrictions will be introduced on several city thoroughfares, where the groups of dancers will go to Sumuleu Ciuc.

Also, to facilitate access to the event site, special bus services offered by the local transport company will operate, with people dressed in folk costumes being able to travel for free.

At the same time, on Friday, before the "Day of the 1,000 Szekler Girls", the "Szekler Folk Costume Day" is celebrated, at the initiative of the Szekler Choreographic Theatre Harghita, with all those who wish being encouraged to dress in traditional costume or to wear at least one element of it.
