The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, announced on Thursday the signing of a national partnership coordinated by the "Pius Branzeu" County Emergency Clinical Hospital, called PROTEGO - "Resilience and Organization Program for the Efficient Treatment of Burn Injuries and Other Critical Situations".

The project is financed from non-reimbursable European funds, with a total budget of 23 million lei.

"A broad national partnership has been approved, coordinated by the "Pius Brânzeu" County Emergency Clinical Hospital, which marks the launch of the PROTEGO project - Resilience and Organization Program for the Efficient Treatment of Burn Injuries and Other Critical Situations. The project is dedicated to strengthening the response capacity of the Romanian medical system and defining a unified safety and quality framework for the care of burn patients, applicable at the national level," Alexandru Rogobete wrote on Facebook.

Within this project, the "Pius Brânzeu" County Emergency Clinical Hospital of Timişoara has the role of coordinator, ensuring the organization of activities, facilitating collaboration between partners and integrating medical and academic expertise, so that the results lead to "standardization, coherence and unitary application" in the public health system.

PROTEGO brings together an extensive consortium of medical and university institutions in Romania, which contribute equally to building this national standard: "Victor Babes" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, "George Emil Palade" University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology, "Sf. Spiridon" County Clinical Emergency Hospital, "Grigore T. Popa" University of Medicine and Pharmacy and "Grigore Alexandrescu" Children's Emergency Clinical Hospital.

According to the cited source, an essential element of the project is the training of human resources, in parallel with the completion of the infrastructure.

"The two centers for major burns, in Timisoara and Targu Mures, are at an advanced stage of implementation, and their operation at maximum capacity requires the existence of medical teams trained to the most demanding safety and quality standards. In this regard, PROTEGO includes training and continuous improvement programs, developed both at national level and by calling on international expertise, so that medical personnel involved in treating burn patients benefit from the best practices validated at European and international level," the minister also wrote.
