Heatwave, severe thermal discomfort to grip Bucharest, 29 counties in Romania
Bucharest City and 29 counties will be under a Code Orange for heatwave and severe thermal discomfort on Monday, and a Code Yellow for similar weather will be in force in 11 other counties, according to the National Weather Administration (ANM).
In Maramures, Crisana, Banat, Moldavia, southern Oltenia and Muntenia and most of Transylvania, highs will generally be 37 - 39 degrees Celsius and lows between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius. Thermal discomfort should be severe as the temperature-humidity index will exceed critical 80. All these areas are under a Code Orange warning.
In the eastern parts of Transylvania, in Dobrogea and in northern Muntenia and Oltenia, where the Code Yellow is in force, thermal discomfort will also be high as the temperature-humidity index will exceed critical 80. Highs will generally be between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, and lows between 17 and 21 degrees Celsius.
The heat wave, exceedingly high temperatures and raising thermal discomfort will persist in the city of Bucharest throughout Monday, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will be above critical 80. Highs of 36 - 39 degrees Celsius, lows of 17 - 21 degrees Clesius; mostly clear skies and weak to moderate winds.
Starting from Tuesday, August 29, the heat wave will retreat towards the eastern half of the country.
