Her Majesty Margareta and Prince Consort Radu talked on Monday, in Rome, with students at the Centro Alti Studi per la Difesa, a prestigious military higher education institution in Italy.

The two distinguished guests were welcomed by the president of the military institution, Admiral Giacinto Ottaviani.

The event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania in Rome, Gabriela Dancau, Major General Corneliu Postu and Andrew Popper, the president of the Royal Council.

Prince Radu delivered, in front of a large audience, the lecture entitled "Romania in NATO and the EU. A perspective of the Romanian Royal Family".

"Our experience is unique. We represent an institution, the Royal Family, which is 156 years old in our country. If we compare ourselves with other important countries in Europe, especially with former empires, the history of the Royal Family of Romania is a very short one. (...) And maybe for this reason in Romania, the Royal House and the Royal Family play such a unique and difficult to understand role in public life", stated Prince Radu.

His Royal Highness spoke about the important role that Carol I or Ferdinand played in the history of Romania, as leaders of the state in a period of extensive transformations, but also about the involvement of King Mihai, after 1997, in promoting integration European and Euro-Atlantic of our country.

"For our part, we, our generation (...), are trying to do exactly the same thing (...), we are trying to put Romania on the world map, to talk about our commitment to the values of the Euro-Atlantic family, of the European Union", Prince Radu also said.

Her Majesty Margareta and Prince Consort Radu then had a dialogue with the participants of the highest course organized by the military university, on topics related to Romania's contribution to NATO and the European Union.

Earlier, Prince Radu met with representatives of Invictus Italia, the event also being hosted by Centro Alti Studi per la Difesa.

Her Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Romanian Crown, together with His Royal Highness Prince Consort Radu, is visiting Rome and the Vatican.

The program of the visit to Rome also includes visits to the Sovereign Order of Malta, the Italian Red Cross, the Italian Paralympic Committee and the Italian Olympic Committee, as well as viewing some exhibits about the Royal Family of Romania at the Pietro Canonica Museum. Also, a meeting with the community of Romanians in Italy and the launch of Queen Maria's Diary, the Italian edition, edited and printed by Rediviva Milano Publishing House, are scheduled.

An important point in the program will be the private audience with the Sovereign Pontiff, followed by visits to the Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital of the Holy See, to a center for receiving refugee women from Ukraine and to the headquarters of the Sant'Egidio Community. AGERPRES
