Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, stated on Wednesday, during her visit to the Medex Oncology Hospital in Sangeorgiu de Mures - one of the most modern oncology hospitals in Eastern Europe, built following an investment of 33 million euros - that beyond the technical aspects, the spiritual dimension applied in treatment represents something new for Romania.

"You spoke about the spiritual side. I know everything that has been done here, and it is evident technically as well, but spiritually it is something new, I believe, for Romania - and something absolutely essential for holistic treatment and the success of therapy," Her Majesty Margareta said at the end of the visit.

His Royal Highness Prince Radu pointed out that the visits undertaken by members of the Royal Family to communities across Romania and the Republic of Moldova are not intended merely as ceremonial ribbon-cuttings or photo opportunities.

"We want to make sure that the fabric of the Romanian nation - within its home communities - manages to withstand the many challenges humanity faces today and continues to move forward in a world that is so difficult. We therefore visit local administrations and try to speak with the authorities of your city and county to see how we might inspire, encourage or support efforts to ensure a dignified life for people - something increasingly difficult to achieve nowadays," said Prince Radu.

He explained that the decision to visit schools stems from the desire to assess whether education in Romania meets the standards and expectations normally upheld by a European Union member state.

"There are parts of the country where things move slowly or fall below acceptable standards, but there are also some fortunate places in Romania where towns and communities have advanced, and where even miracles can happen - as is the case here. And all the more so because we know that you, the doctors and medical staff, have many colleagues who are no longer in the country. We meet them everywhere - in Ireland, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland. There is no country we visit where we do not find Romanian doctors or medical personnel. This brings us joy, because they are respected and well regarded, but it also saddens us, because so few of you remain here, and the need for your work is far greater than what you can meet in the communities you serve," Prince Radu emphasised.

His Royal Highness expressed gratitude for the positive developments within the medical system, noting that Medex Hospital "stands at the very top of the pyramid; it is an example which, as Her Majesty and I are aware, cannot be seen every day in every city across the country."

"But it is a fortunate situation that it exists here, because it inspires - it shows people that one can live both beautifully and with dignity. And the more patients leave this hospital with a smile, the happier its founders will be, knowing they have left a meaningful mark on people's lives," Prince Radu added.

The Medex Oncology Hospital in Sangeorgiu de Mures was built by the Foundation for the Targu Mures Oncology Hospital following an investment of 33 million euros, including a contribution of 6.4 million euros from the Romanian Government through state aid granted by the Ministry of Finance.

Remus Benta, President of the Foundation for the Targu Mures Oncology Hospital, said that Medex was created as a response to people's needs.
