Covering critical deficits in terms of defense capabilities by ensuring their development across the EU, as well as aspects regarding the financing of these efforts were the major topics discussed at a conference organized in Warsaw on Wednesday by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the National Defense Ministry said in a release.
According to the cited document, Defense Minister Angel Tilvar participated on Wednesday in the high-level defense conference organized in the Polish capital city, dedicated to examining the main strategic directions and recommendations included in the recently adopted White Paper for European Defense - Readiness 2030, a programmatic document for the substantiation of future EU efforts on this level.
"The context generated by the Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine has determined a profound change in the continent's security architecture, underlining the urgent need to strengthen the defense of the European Union states and to intensify cooperation between member countries," the cited source says.
The conference was opened by Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, and by European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius.
"The event focused on covering critical deficits in terms of defense capabilities through their development at EU level, as well as on aspects related to the financing of these efforts. The main goal of the meeting was to provide the defense ministers with a thorough understanding of the proposals laid out in the White Paper, as well as to stimulate the exchange of ideas and best practices among the participants, with a view to strengthening Europe's security and stability in the long term," the Defense Ministry reports.
