Senate chair Ciuca on Tuesday told a press conference in Timisoara that the highest peak of foreign direct investments in Romania was recorded in 2022, when their level reached 10.3 billion RON, although this was the year when the invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine began and there was a certain insecurity among foreign investors.

"When we talk about foreign direct investments, we only talk about capital that comes from foreign investors. I can say that the highest peak of foreign investments in Romania was achieved in 2022, when, the very year in which the invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine began and there was a certain uncertainty, we managed to achieve the largest amount of foreign direct investment in Romania, 10.3 billion RON. We are only talking about money from foreign investors. Now, the programs aimed at the use of European funds and the money from the budget to support and consolidate the Romanian capital are heading in this direction," said Nicolae Ciuca, who was head of the Government between November 2021 and June 2023.

He mentioned that in 2007, when Romania joined the European Union, the turnover of the Romanian business milieu reached 490 billion RON, and currently this indicator stands at 2,700 billion RON.

"The consolidation part of the Romanian capital is absolutely necessary. The Romanian capital, in terms of profitability and contribution to the budget, has a figure of 7.8%, given that it is 3.7% for foreign investors. We can notice that it was not by chance that I said that the Government and the state institutions must be partners of the business milieu, because the Romanian capital is the one that has the most consistent contribution to the state budget, it has stability and I have not heard of it leaving under the conditions of difficulty in the country. When the war started in Ukraine, business people from Romania stayed here and even looked for solutions to consolidate themselves better, to stabilize themselves", said Nicolae Ciuca.
