Romania's Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete on Thursday had a meeting in Washington with World Bank officials to discuss healthcare projects carried out by the Ministry of Health, especially three burn centres.
"This collaboration is a strategic pillar in Romania's relationship with the United States of America, through the World Bank, a relationship based on trust, transparency and concrete results. We are not just talking about funding, but about vision, expertise and partnerships that transform the Romanian healthcare system. I was proud to put on the table projects that happen concretely, not just on paper - symbols of the fact that Romania can deliver results," the minister wrote on Thursday in a social media post.
According to him, the discussions focused in particular on three burn centres being built in the country: Timisoara - the works are coming to an end, and the centre will be ready by the end of 2025; Targu Mures - the estimated deadline is the spring of 2026; the Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital in Bucharest - the children's burn centre is already "in full development".
"The World Bank officials appreciated the accelerated pace of these projects, confirming that Romania is talking today about realities, not just about promises. Also, under this collaboration, we are working together with the World Bank on a new funding mechanism for healthcare facilities, based on performance, efficiency and the real needs of patients. At the same time, we are developing a faster and more predictable mechanism for the introduction of medicines into the list of subsidised medicines - a concrete step for Romanian patients to have faster access to modern treatments. A clear proof is that, already, on the website of the Ministry of Health, the draft government decision is published, which includes 35 new molecules in the list of subsidised medicines - the result of teamwork and of this new approach based on speed, responsibility and transparency," said Rogobete.
In his opinion, the partnership with the World Bank and co-operation with the United States is a guarantee of trust and stability for the sustainable development of Romania's healthcare system.
