This year I believe we will manage to reach the darkest production record in Hidroelectrica's history due to the drought, somewhere a little over 11 terawatt-hours (TWh), and the profit will be only 3 billion lei, which seems small, but compared to the production I believe it is a very good financial performance, the chairman of Hidroelectrica's Board Bogdan Badea told a Monday's specialized event.
"The reserves in the lakes this year are somewhere around 73% compared to 64% in the same period of the previous year, so we are much better off with the reserve than last year. Equally, I can tell you that this happened under the conditions in which this year I believe we will manage to reach the bleakest production record in Hidroelectrica's history, somewhere a little over 11 terawatt-hours of production. So, it is the driest year we have faced in our activity. It seems to be a year that will be, in terms of production, even below the year that generated Hidroelectrica's insolvency. Of course, we are at a different stage with the company. Then there was the issue of insolvency, now there is the issue of making a profit of only 3 billion lei, which, as we are used to as shareholders, seems like a small profit, but compared to a production of "I think 11 terawatts is a very good financial performance," said Badea.
According to him, over time, Hidroelectrica has become accustomed to managing the main risk it faces, namely hydrological risk.
"I listened very carefully to the weather forecasts for this winter. I have noticed a change in the pattern in recent years, a change in the pattern that, let's say, has reduced the pressure a little in terms of the influence that weather factors have on the energy sector, but I don't think it's time to relax, because, from what I have observed statistically in previous years, even if there were situations in which we had milder winters, in which episodes of extreme cold lasted less, these issues can arise at any time and then, as always, Hidroelectrica is one of the main providers of stability and security of the energy system", he pointed out.
The Focus Energetic publication organized on Monday, in partnership with the Committee for Energy, Energy Infrastructure and Mineral Resources of the Romanian Senate, the 44th edition of the Focus Energetic Conferences and the 13th in the cycle of those dedicated to winter preparations. The event "The Challenges of Winter 2025 - 2026 for the National Energy System" took place at the Parliament.
