Ibrahim Maalouf, Kokoroko, Bireli Lagrene and Alabaster DePlume are among the lineup confirmed for the 13th edition of the Jazz in the Park Festival which will take place June 6 - 8 in Cluj-Napoca.
The 13th edition of the Jazz in the Park Festival opens the season of Romania's major events with a diverse lineup that includes internationally renowned artists such as: trumpet maestro Ibrahim Maalouf, Afrobeat jazz fusion eight-piece Kokoroko, guitar virtuoso Bireli Lagrene, Afrobeat band Seun Kuti & Fela's Egypt 80, experimental musician Alabaster DePlume, progressive jazz trio Mammal Hands, Transylvania Jazz Orchestra, Berti Barbera & Sebastian Burneci Quintet, jazz rapper Sorvina, Amphitrio, jazzbois, and quintet New Fossils. Organized at the beginning of summer, from 6 to 8 June 2025, in the same idyllic and full of authenticity location: the 'Romulus Vuia' Ethnographic Park in Cluj-Napoca, Jazz in the Park is also daytime festival - starting with this edition, it offers participants a relaxed musical and cultural experience during the day, inviting them to explore the atmosphere, revel in creative activities, discover the festival's gastronomy and enjoy new experiences and authentic moments, the organizers said in a release.
In addition to music, the festival offers a broad array of activities that are better during the day: cuisine demonstrations, talks, themed restaurants, crafts and music fairs, instrument workshops. The evenings will be animated by wine tastings, cocktail workshops and groovy concerts. Of course, there will also be time for jam sessions and late-night discussions, the release notes.
Ibrahim Maalouf (France/Lebanon) is an internationally renowned trumpeter and composer, known for his style that blends jazz with oriental influences. The first Lebanese instrumentalist to be nominated for a Grammy, acclaimed for his album "Queen of Sheba". At Jazz in the Park 2025 he brings his newest project, T.O.M.A. - "Trumpets of Michel-Ange".
Kokoroko (London, UK) is a London-based Afrobeat-jazz band consisting of eight musicians and led by Sheila Maurice-Grey, known for its vibrant energy and fusion of African and hip-hop sounds with contemporary jazz. Their song 'Abusey Junction', released on an EP in 2018, became a viral hit, with over 50 million views on YouTube.
Bireli Lagrene (France) - is a guitar virtuoso and ambassador of gypsy jazz, with strong influences from the style of Django Reinhardt. His album 'Gipsy Project' remains a landmark in manouche jazz.
Alabaster DePlume (England) is a saxophonist, poet and activist, known for his combination of jazz, spoken word and improvisation. His music is deeply introspective and evocative.
Mammal Hands (England) is a British trio that combines jazz with influences from classical music, electronics and minimalism. Their cinematic and melancholic style has brought them international recognition, the presentation of the festival program reads.
Jazz in the Park is a manifesto festival that combines good music with the promotion of positive community values. The festival has hosted so far over 500 jazz concerts with international artists and is today one of the most important European events of its kind. In 2019, Jazz in the Park won the "Best Small European Festival" category at the 11th edition of the prestigious European Festival Awards competition, becoming the first jazz festival in Europe (and implicitly in Romania) to obtain a distinction at this event. It was also a 5-time finalist in the same category, the last nomination being at the 2024 edition.
