The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) has supported, through non-reimbursable funding provided under the Cantemir 2025 Programme, the organisation of 20 cultural projects in 22 countries on four continents.

These projects took place in 35 cities in Australia, the Americas, Africa and Europe.

The total budget allocated to the CANTEMIR 2025 Programme was 2,000,000 lei, with a maximum of 100,000 lei awarded per project.

The projects were carried out in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Moldova, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, the United States of America and Hungary, ICR announced on Wednesday in a Facebook post.

The central theme of the 20 projects was "Culture Matters", which addressed contemporary cultural issues and highlighted the role of culture in strengthening social cohesion, promoting sustainable development and stimulating global dialogue.

This year's edition of the CANTEMIR Programme brought together artists and creators from various fields, from musical projects and theatre performances to research initiatives and artistic residencies, all exploring the concept of "Culture Matters".

The events included short films, solo and group exhibitions, video installations, public-space performances, film screenings, interactive concerts and musical retrospectives, as well as dialogues, conferences and initiatives dedicated to promoting inclusion and combating discrimination through the performing arts. In this context, culture became a living ground for experimentation, communication and the exchange of perspectives, ICR emphasised.

"The CANTEMIR 2025 Programme has brought Romanian creativity to the forefront and supported the integration of artists from Romania and the Republic of Moldova into the international cultural circuit. The theme 'Culture Matters' has united the entire selection of projects, demonstrating that investment in culture goes beyond promoting artistic excellence, contributing instead to strengthening identity and enhancing the international visibility of artistic creation," ICR highlighted.

The CANTEMIR Programme is part of the cultural support axis of the ICR Strategy 2022-2026, which encourages partnerships between Romanian and foreign cultural operators, as well as with international cultural organisations.
