Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said that, following talks hosted by President Nicusor Dan at Cotroceni Palace with pro-European party leaders, agreement was reached on the SAFE instrument, while discussions on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan only highlighted existing challenges.
"At least on the SAFE component, by the end of the talks there was agreement on the defence aspect, which is necessary given what we are seeing, including drones falling on our country's territory. We need to ensure that we assume our share of defence responsibilities so that Romania remains a safe country. There was agreement on this, and in the coming days Parliament will show whether this agreement holds. As for the PNRR, beyond reviewing projects and highlighting difficulties on several more sensitive issues, there was no agreement, only the decision to set up a working group," Bolojan said on Monday on private broadcaster Digi24.
He cited the wage law and the decarbonisation process as examples of "sensitive issues".
President Nicusor Dan held consultations on Monday at Cotroceni Presidential Palace with leaders of pro-European parties on the SAFE and PNRR programmes. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Social Democratic Party, the National Liberal Party, the Save Romania Union, the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania and the parliamentary group of national minorities.
